SHRI Mentorship Scheme and what
it entails: For the Mentor:
The SHRI Mentoring Scheme
has two programmes that reach out to:-
1. Individuals (SHRI Member / Public)
2. Organizations (SHRI Corporate Friend / Public)
Both programmes serve to foster mentoring relationships with a view of enhancing
career and productivity improvements or advancements.
This Scheme allows mentors to share their experiences, skills, knowledge and
advice with their mentees.
Each programme allows an interaction between experienced HR professionals within
the SHRI membership, and less experienced individuals who are keen in seeking
opportunities for career and professional development; thus, forming a wide
network a contacts.
Individuals who express interest in becoming a mentor in this scheme will have
to meet the respective criterion set out by SHRI (see page xx). Successful
candidates will be subsequently paired with their mentees by SHRI.
Each programme runs for a duration of six months, resulting in a minimum of two
intakes a year (January and July). During the course of mentorship, both mentors
and mentees shall be required to attend two facilitated events, organised by
SHRI, that provide networking and bonding opportunities for the participants.
Some other benefits that come along with joining as a mentor includes:-
• Enhancing one’s credentials for HR Accreditation
• Listing of one’s name on the SHRI Website as a mentor
• Greater all round exposure that aids in career building
• Learning while mentoring
• Increasing one’s professionalism
• Playing a part in making Singapore a world-class business hub
For the Mentee:
Mentoring helps employees to
reach their full potential through personal and professional development in a
strategic and supportive way. It allows the mentee to build skills and knowledge
while attaining goals for career development.
Through mentoring, mentees develop direct, hands-on skills tailored to their
individual needs, on a just-in-time basis. This enables employees to stay
productive on the job instead of having to attend hours or days of traditional
classroom training.
Uniquely designed to greatly benefit the mentee, mentoring partnerships manifest
the best results when the relationship sets specific goals and expectations at
the beginning.
Today, formal mentoring programs are often used to enhance the effectiveness of
any talent management strategy. To compliment the traditional training
programmes, which are often expensive and time consuming, SHRI’s Mentoring
Scheme provides a cost-efficient solution for getting employees up to speed.
