Personal Counseling Services (PCS)

As part of our efforts to care for and improve the overall well-being of our learners, we are pleased to introduce to you our SHRI Pastoral Counseling and Career Advisory Services. We hope that these will enhance your learning ability and employability.

Please find attached profile of the counselor, Ms Felice Yeong, who is currently serving as an intern with SHRI to provide the following services:

PERSONAL COUNSELLING SERVICES (PCS)
One time conversation during intake interview on any matter:

q      confusion

q      struggles

q      advice on a particular matter

q      relationships

q      career choice

q      study choice / pathway

q      conflict situations

Occasionally these conversations lead to the suggestion to continue with personal counselling to any student struggling with personal problems, like

q       depression & anxiety

q       stress management

q       eating disorders

q       loss and grief

q       assault/abuse

q       relationship concerns

q       vocation

q       life future

q       career testing

q       choosing a major

LIMITATION OF SERVICES
Felice Yeong is not able to offer the ongoing services for:

q       Court mandated counseling

q       Individuals wilh a history of mental illness

q       Individuals receiving mental health services elsewhere

q       Individuals with potential life threatening conditions such as eating disorders

q       Individuals who are acutely suicidal or homicidal

q       Individuals whose conditions are deemed beyond the scope of the Felice’s personal counselling capabilities will be referred to a professional staff.

CONFIDENTIALITY
The counseling intern – Felice Yeong will do everything possible to protect the confidentiality of students’ records.  However, there are some circumstances where the law either allows or requires her to break confidentiality.  These special circumstances include:

q       When there is a reason to believe that a student may be at risk of harming themselves or others

q       When a court of law orders the release of information

q       When there is a reason to believe that minor, elderly person or person with a disability is in danger of being, is now being or has been physically, sexually or emotionally abused or neglected

q       When a client is involved in a criminal lawsuit

Going through your professional learning journey is a process that can be very positive and rewarding. It can also present challenges. Sometimes you may want a little more support than your friends and family can give to meet these challenges. Meeting with a counsellor can help you handle and manage your goals.

Felice Yeong offers personal and  career counselling and support, within a professional counselling framework. These services provide a wide range of strategies to help you do your very best during your time here at SHRI Academy.
