Two memorable
experiences stood out for me – one with my CEO and the other was with my
Chief HR Officer. The experience with my CEO occurred during his closing
address at one of my company’s leadership development programs. His simple
question was “What’s next?” This simple question if reflected and acted upon
earnestly, will prevent us from being complacent and drive us to
conscientiously think ahead always.
The second experience was a conversation with our CHRO during this year’s HR
leadership meeting. When asked what words of wisdom she could offer to guide
us into 2011, she said “Always stay close and relevant to the business”,
which we all knew was meant to inspire us to continue to add value and be
strategic partners to the business.
If I may add, I would say, “Stay close to doing what you love, stay relevant
and ahead by developing future capabilities needed to be successful in the
near future”.

Shaping Up for the Economic Upturn -
Work-Life Tools for Personal and Corporate Success
12 March 2010 | 1400 - 1700
SHRI @ The Verge, Training Room 6
The financial meltdown
has set pulses racing and expended much resources. With the worst
seemingly behind us, it is timely to take stock of our personal, family
and financial life, to capitalise on opportunities from the economic
upturn. While we might have experienced work-life disharmony fighting
for survival during the economic downturn, we now need to replenish our
emotional and physical reserves, to rise up to future work-life
challenges.
At the corporate level,
companies also need to re-look at how their HR practices could be better
employed to engage and rejuvenate their employees. In this talk, we
explored how mental flexibility can help us achieve success in achieving
work and personal goals, and coping with the exigencies of life. We also
took a close look at some of the best practices that HR can put in
place to help their employees attain work-life integration.
