Two memorable
experiences stood out for me – one with my CEO and the other was with my
Chief HR Officer. The experience with my CEO occurred during his closing
address at one of my company’s leadership development programs. His simple
question was “What’s next?” This simple question if reflected and acted upon
earnestly, will prevent us from being complacent and drive us to
conscientiously think ahead always.
The second experience was a conversation with our CHRO during this year’s HR
leadership meeting. When asked what words of wisdom she could offer to guide
us into 2011, she said “Always stay close and relevant to the business”,
which we all knew was meant to inspire us to continue to add value and be
strategic partners to the business.
If I may add, I would say, “Stay close to doing what you love, stay relevant
and ahead by developing future capabilities needed to be successful in the
near future”.

Formulating Re-Employment Policies. What do you need to know?
19 May 2010 | 1345 - 1700
SHRI @ The Verge, Training Room 9
The engage session
shared with participants how to formulate the re-employment policies
should they wish
to implement it before the re-employment laws are enacted in January
2012. When formulating the re-employment policies, we have to rely on
the tripartite guidelines and advisory on re-employment. However, this
may not be sufficient, as ultimately the company may need to define or
understand the following:
-
Who is eligible to
be covered under the re-employment laws?
-
Who is covered
under the Retirement Age Act and what is the bearing on exemption
notification?
-
Would the
application of re-employment policies be the same for common law
employees (PMEs) and statutory employees?
-
How to define
medically fit and performance criteria for re-employment?
-
Can an employee be
dismissed with notice or without notice just before reaching the
retirement age?
-
Would the
re-employment policies be different for unionised and non-unionised
companies?
-
How to administer
the EAP? Should it be based on financial performance, length of
service, salary of retirees etc?
