Two memorable
experiences stood out for me – one with my CEO and the other was with my
Chief HR Officer. The experience with my CEO occurred during his closing
address at one of my company’s leadership development programs. His simple
question was “What’s next?” This simple question if reflected and acted upon
earnestly, will prevent us from being complacent and drive us to
conscientiously think ahead always.
The second experience was a conversation with our CHRO during this year’s HR
leadership meeting. When asked what words of wisdom she could offer to guide
us into 2011, she said “Always stay close and relevant to the business”,
which we all knew was meant to inspire us to continue to add value and be
strategic partners to the business.
If I may add, I would say, “Stay close to doing what you love, stay relevant
and ahead by developing future capabilities needed to be successful in the
near future”.

Singapore HR Congress & Business-Connect Exposition
In the vortex
of a globalised economy and changing employment landscape, a
strong and capable HR community will be the catalyst and change
agents to make an impact to the ever-changing corporate world.
With sweeping policy changes, today’s HR practitioners need to
be advocators of HR policies, driving impactful HR strategies
and helping to make the difference in the lives of their
employees.
In
an effort to uplift HR to a higher ground, SHRI organised the 11th
World HR Congress in 2006, an event that sets record high of more than
2000 delegates comprised of HR professionals, practitioners,
business leaders and managers from more than 60 countries. The
exposition also showcased more than 90 companies from the Human Capital
industry. Following the success of this event, SHRI continues to provide
the HR fraternity an arena of knowledge-sharing through The Singapore HR
Congress & Business-Connect Exposition events 2007, 2008, 2009 and
2010.
