“I must say that SHRI Singapore HR Congress was an enjoyable and memorable experience for me. I have learnt more information about human resource management as well as getting to bond with my classmates. It was certainly an eye opener because I saw many different foreign leaders who are experts in the field of human resource management.”

Therapeutic Counselling Skills

The assessment of the socio-psychological condition in Singapore is a bleak one. Every one in four marriages ends up in divorce. Mental problems have also risen sharply with many suffering from depression, anxiety disorders and schizophrenia and this includes children.

Our socio-psychological well-being is crucial as mental toughness is increasingly looked upon as a key component we need to develop in order to keep ahead in our highly competitive world. Counselling can help us to monitor and strengthen our mental tenacity and socio-psychological well-being.

Objectives

·
Acquire relevant counselling skills to help others who are experiencing difficulties in life
· Prepare participants to do the more advanced professional counselling courses later on to become a professional counsellor

Outline

Day 1 Part One - Introduction to Psychology Counselling

·
Psychology as a scientific study of behaviour
· Study of the brain and its functions
· Imbalance of brain chemistry causing psychological disorders like depression and anxiety problems

Day 1 Part Two - Basic Counselling Skills
· Three simple-to-use counselling models: Problem Solving model; Reality Therapy model and Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy model
·
Practical sessions through role-plays

Day 2 Part Two - Counselling People with Guilt Problems
