Two memorable experiences stood out for me – one with my CEO and the other was with my Chief HR Officer. The experience with my CEO occurred during his closing address at one of my company’s leadership development programs. His simple question was “What’s next?” This simple question if reflected and acted upon earnestly, will prevent us from being complacent and drive us to conscientiously think ahead always.

The second experience was a conversation with our CHRO during this year’s HR leadership meeting. When asked what words of wisdom she could offer to guide us into 2011, she said “Always stay close and relevant to the business”, which we all knew was meant to inspire us to continue to add value and be strategic partners to the business.

If I may add, I would say, “Stay close to doing what you love, stay relevant and ahead by developing future capabilities needed to be successful in the near future”.

Mentoring in the Workplace (HRM117)

A mentor is an experienced and trusted advisor. Mentoring can be daunting when you first come across it. What is it? How is it used? Mentoring is the most effective way to help people develop their jobs and careers. The challenge is to learn to apply it in a structured, thoughtful and planned way.

This workshop will help participants maximise their company’s pool of expert knowledge and experienced staff to benefit everyone in the organisation.

What is DISC?

DISC is the original, oldest, most validated personal assessment used by over 50 million others to improve lives, interpersonal relationships, work productivity, teamwork and communication. Based on the 1928 work of psychologist William Moulton Marston, the DISC Personal Profile System is personality behavioral testing profiling using a 4 dimensional model of normal behaviour in an assessment, inventory, survey format in both self-scored or on-line versions.

Methodology

This is a highly interactive workshop with practice sessions at each step of the Mentoring Wheel process with the DISC profile. Participants are expected to commit 100% engagement so as to maximise learning
