Two memorable experiences stood out for me – one with my CEO and the other was with my Chief HR Officer. The experience with my CEO occurred during his closing address at one of my company’s leadership development programs. His simple question was “What’s next?” This simple question if reflected and acted upon earnestly, will prevent us from being complacent and drive us to conscientiously think ahead always.

The second experience was a conversation with our CHRO during this year’s HR leadership meeting. When asked what words of wisdom she could offer to guide us into 2011, she said “Always stay close and relevant to the business”, which we all knew was meant to inspire us to continue to add value and be strategic partners to the business.

If I may add, I would say, “Stay close to doing what you love, stay relevant and ahead by developing future capabilities needed to be successful in the near future”.

Effective recruitment and selection process will ensure that your organization can directly contribute to effective performance & productivity in the organization. It helps organizations to recruit and select the best qualified candidate for the position. The current situation of attraction & retention of staff depends greatly on the recruitment / selection process - the most suitable candidate for the job or the right fit. This course aims to provide participants with the knowledge & skills to develop the ‘ A to Z ’ aspect of strategic Human Resource Management component on recruitment and selection. Major topics include determining the human resource needs , developing job specifications and job descriptions, the job competencies required for the job-fit, assessing the applicants, interviewing them using the competency-based technique and developing recruitment contracts. Emphasis will be placed on the “job fit” of the candidates.

- determining the manpower requirement – preparing the job description/specification..
- attracting candidates – reviewing and evaluating alternative sources of applicants within and without the company
- selecting the candidates – sifting through applications based on the criteria as developed from the job description/specification .
► The key ideas of competency-based interviewing process to solicit competency examples in order to assess the presence of & the absence of work-related skills/attitudes.
► The ability to develop / apply competency questions for the interview.
► The need to apply probing skills and identify/assess the candidates for the ‘ job fit ‘.
