Two memorable experiences stood out for me – one with my CEO and the other was with my Chief HR Officer. The experience with my CEO occurred during his closing address at one of my company’s leadership development programs. His simple question was “What’s next?” This simple question if reflected and acted upon earnestly, will prevent us from being complacent and drive us to conscientiously think ahead always.

The second experience was a conversation with our CHRO during this year’s HR leadership meeting. When asked what words of wisdom she could offer to guide us into 2011, she said “Always stay close and relevant to the business”, which we all knew was meant to inspire us to continue to add value and be strategic partners to the business.

If I may add, I would say, “Stay close to doing what you love, stay relevant and ahead by developing future capabilities needed to be successful in the near future”.

Drafting, Vetting & Negotiation of Employment Contracts

It is essential for business owners, managers and HR practitioners and those working in the HR arena, to know the legal implications in any employment contracts so as to avoid legal problems and finding solutions when settling legal issues.

The objective of the course is to introduce to learners the importance of how to draft, vet and negotiate Employment contracts.  You will be introduced to terms in a contract, restrictive clauses, termination, salary, leave, and other employment issues in a pragmatic manner. By the end of the course, participants would have achieved a great level of achievement in interpreting, resolving, settling employment contract.

Objectives

By the end of the 2-day course, learners will be able to:

  • Understand the rights and obligations that govern the key principles your employer & employee relationship

  • Understand how to draft and vet engineering employment contracts through practical exercises

  • Be able to deal with legal issues in general engineering employment contract with confidence

Outline

  • How to interpret an employment contract

  • What are the key clauses in an employment contracts.

  • What are the do and do not in interpreting employment contracts

  • Termination and post term termination obligations

  • What protocols and steps should be taken by the employer?

  • The termination clause and method of termination

  • Company policy and practices by and large on termination and suspension of employment contract

  • Breach of employment terms and implications
