ACCOLADES TO SINGAPORE HR AWARD RECIPIENTS!

HR Awards 2008 sees more companies striving to become employers of choice with

HR leading practices and winning HR strategies

1. Come 4 July 2008, Singapore will be celebrating the achievements of organisations whose leading HR practices have distinct them as the employers of choice at the Singapore HR Awards 2008.  Organised and hosted by Singapore Human Resources Institute, the event recognises continuous breakthroughs in the HR Community.

2. This year, the Singapore HR Awards saw an upward trend in participation. Thirty-five companies from various sectors ranging from SMEs, MNCs to Public sectors will be receiving the prestigious HR awards from Speaker of Parliament Mr Abdullah Tarmugi. Recipients have been assessed for their creativity and holistic approach in managing programmes relating to performance management, learning and development, health and employee wellness management, just to name a few. Awards in Strategic HR, Talent Management, Retention & Succession Planning, Corporate Social Responsibility and Fair Employment Practice will also be given out. A new category - HR Leader was also added to recognise outstanding individuals for strategic management of the HR portfolio to align with corporate agenda.

3. Through these Awards, it is evident that companies are willing to invest in their workers. In addition to training and development to help enhance workers capabilities, employers are making sure that a good working environment is created and fair employment practices are highly observed.

4. Mrs Lim Ho Geok Choo, President of SHRI commented, “The overwhelming response in participation rate indicates that more employers are beginning to refine their HR policies and schemes to benefit the current workforce. This effort is highly commendable as it underscores the importance of having good HR practitioners and HR schemes and policies. At the same time, employers are also ensuring that fair employment practices are honoured. In today’s workforce that boasts a diversity of talents and multi-culturalism, HR practitioners play key and strategic roles to influence management decision. A fat pay packet alone is no longer a lucrative deal to attract talents. Good HR practices, policies and winning HR strategies will be the extrinsic factors to lure these good talents.”

5. Policies and HR schemes aside, drivers of HR practices will also be recognised for their hard work, relentless efforts and contributions to ensure that the workforce is geared to head on new challenges. CEOs will be honoured for championing and supporting HR practices in the organisation to address critical employee and organisational needs. HR Leaders will be appreciated for spearheading the HR team and driving human capital and organisational excellence. Both the CEOs and HR practitioners hold strategic roles in helping their companies to perform successfully in businesses through nurturing and developing a resilient, efficient and agile workforce.

6. Mr David Ang, Executive Director of SHRI highlights the importance of having good HR practitioners. He said, “For companies to achieve their desired outcomes, they need good and capable leaders to drive their workforce. HR is a continuous effort and a very challenging one. In today’s current economic uncertainties, CEOs and HR leaders need to work very closely with each other. This is important during an economic crisis or when business times are bad. Making sound decisions that will have the most favourable impact on their staff and at the same time trying to remain competitive in the business arena is a tough job. But with good CEOs and HR leaders, decisions made will always benefit both parties in one way or the other. Therefore, it is important that we acknowledge and commend their efforts.”

7. Local newspaper chain Singapore Press Holdings, financial institution KPMG, renowned IT brand IBM, popular telecommunication SingTel company and Singapore General Hospital are amongst the 38 award recipients that will bag more than 3 HR awards. About 600 industry captains, HR chiefs and practitioners are expected to be present to celebrate the achievements of organisations and individuals at the presentation gala.
