SHRI Leading HR
Practices Summit 2009:
SUCCEED OR SINK!
DEPTHS AND HEIGHTS OF
BUSINESS SUSTAINABILITY
82% RESPONDENTS
PRACTICE EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE
TO ACHIEVE BUSINESS
SUSTAINABILITY
1. In a recent study conducted by the Singapore Human Resource Institute
(SHRI) on business sustainability, organisations here focus on cost
management (1st) and customer delight (2nd)
as the two top factors in helping them to sustain their business.
Talent management was ranked 3rd and Innovation
came in 4th.
2. The Government’s service excellence initiatives which aim to uplift
the customer service standards in Singapore has bear fruits as the
findings derived from 50 organisations showed that 82% of participant
organisations believe strongly in good customer service, meeting the
expectations of their customers and even going the extra miles in trying
to achieve business excellence and sustainability. In the long-run, this
would greatly benefit as global mobility takes centrestage. With the
influx of foreigners coming to Singapore to work or for business
purposes, companies who pay extra attention in delighting their
customers and turn this into one of their business strategies will
likely to continue being relevant and sustainable. Coupled with
innovative approaches, business excellence will be within reach.
3. Another
significant finding in this study is highlighted in the
Sustainability Continuum Positions- MNCs Vs SME/largelocals/others chart
below. The findings in this chart signal some positive indicators
that there are Sustainability Leaders in SMEs. Although the
number is small, it underpins the fact that regardless of the types or
size of organizations that the leader is in, leadership management is
pivotal to business sustainability. Organisations with leaders who value
the 3Ps – People, Prosperity and Planet are
likely to hold ground in any types of economy.
To help organisations understand better the concept of business
sustainability, SHRI has put together the Integrated Model of
Business Sustainability concept. This strategy will further help
organisations embrace the new economy and the challenges it brings.
4. Come

and Heights of Business Sustainability Report at its SHRI Leading
