Two memorable experiences stood out for me – one with my CEO and the other was with my Chief HR Officer. The experience with my CEO occurred during his closing address at one of my company’s leadership development programs. His simple question was “What’s next?” This simple question if reflected and acted upon earnestly, will prevent us from being complacent and drive us to conscientiously think ahead always.

The second experience was a conversation with our CHRO during this year’s HR leadership meeting. When asked what words of wisdom she could offer to guide us into 2011, she said “Always stay close and relevant to the business”, which we all knew was meant to inspire us to continue to add value and be strategic partners to the business.

If I may add, I would say, “Stay close to doing what you love, stay relevant and ahead by developing future capabilities needed to be successful in the near future”.

CORPORATE LEARNING >> ES & SE WSQ

The Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ) system is a nationally recognised continuing education and training system which comprises a competency-based qualifications framework for the adult workforce.  The WSQ is founded on international best practice and is recognised and endorsed by industry and employers.  Service Excellence WSQ and Employability Skills System form part of the WSQ framework.

Service Excellence Workforce Skills Qualifications (SE WSQ)

Today, it is no longer adequate to just meet customer needs.  A highly competitive environment requires organisation to move from 'service quality' to 'service excellence'.

SE WSQ has been developed as a suite of generic competencies which reflect the essential organisational tasks and functions required to deliver excellent service.  Although intended to be a generic set of competencies, SE WSQ is capable of contextualisation and integration into any service industry framework.  It is intended to be used flexibly to meet the needs of industry and can therefore be used as independent modules or in conjunction with WSQ industry frameworks such as retail or tourism.

Employability Skills (ES)

ES, part of the WSQ framework, offers training in employability skills - from operational to managerial - across all industries.  Through ES programmes, individuals will be equipped with essential skills to enable them to be resilient, adaptable and more nimble in meeting the demands of today's workplace and changes in technology or work processes.

- Communication and Relationship Management (CRM) - Operations, Supervisory & Managerial
- Initiative and Enterprise (IE) - Operations, Supervisory & Managerial
- Personal Effectiveness (PE) - Operations, Supervisory & Managerial
- Problem Solving and Decision Making (PSDM) - Operations, Supervisory & Managerial
- Learning and Personal Development (LPD) - Operations, Supervisory & Managerial
- Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) - Operations

What is the Career Readiness Certificate?

The Career Readiness Certificate (CRC) is a key employability skills-based qualification in the WSQ System.  It will benefit and upgrade workers who currently do not have an academic qualification.

A CRC is awarded to individuals who have attained 10 Statements of Attainment (SOAs) in ES modules or a combination of ES and other WSQ modules.  A Statement of Attainment will be awarded by WDA to all participants who have successfully completed the course and satisfied the following:

- Attain at least 75% attendance
- Assessed as "Competent" for the module
